Book Buzz
About this event
On Thursday, June 25, Book Buzz members will meet to discuss Australian writer Charlotte McConaghy's novel Once There Were Wolves that touches on environmental catastrophe, buried trauma, and the wonder of the natural world...all in the company of a bold and damaged female protagonist who arrives in the Scottish Highlands with a crack team of biologists to re-introduce 14 gray wolves into what was once their natural habitat. Not surprisingly the locals who are mostly sheep and cattle farmers aren't sold on the idea. The main character Inti Flynn hopes to heal not only the dying landscape but also her twin sister Addie whose terrible secrets drove the sisters out of their Alaska home. For a while all goes well; the wolves are thriving and no damage has been done to the livestock. However, that changes when a local farmer is found dead in the forest and Inti takes extreme action to protect her beloved wolves. The evening's discussion will be led by Phebe Tinker.
