Book Buzz members will gather on August 27 to discuss J. M. Coetzee’s 1999 Booker Prize winning novel Disgrace. The Booker Prize is Britain’s most important literary award and Coetzee has won it twice. Disgrace tells the story of a 52 year old college professor who is accused of sexual harassment after an affair with a student and seeks refuge on his daughter’s farm. When his daughter is the victim of a brutal attack, their disagreements about what course of action to take force an examination of their place in South Africa’s changing world. The novel has been called “an allegory about what is happening to the human race in the post-colonial period.” The evening’s discussion will be co-led by Barb Bridges and Indrani Mukharjii.
