Stop by anytime during show signups (enter via the back/kitchen door) to do a little dance (choreography to be taught on site), sing a little song (options to be provided in advance and on site), and register to participate in the 2025 WCE Revue! There’s no need to stress, as these are not tryouts. Everyone who signs up will be cast—no “talent” required!
We encourage everyone—including those who cannot make it to show signups in person—to fill out the online Revue sign-up form.

Drop off gently used or new items in the marked container in the vestibule of the clubhouse. The greatest need is for adult men’s coats, gloves, hats, scarves, hand warmers, thick socks, boots and jeans. New men’s underwear, both cotton briefs and boxers, is also in great demand.

On Thursday, October 24, the group will meet for conversation about Lynn Cullen’s fascinating novel The Woman with the Cure and Barb Bridges will lead the evening’s discussion. Set in the 1940’s and 1950’s, the book centers on the race to find a vaccine to combat the deadly polio disease that still today kills or paralyzes its victims, with children being its most common targets. In the middle of the last century, outbreaks of the disease put American cities on lockdown while scientists around the world searched for a cure. This book focuses on Dr. Dorothy Horstmann (1911-2001), an epidemiologist, virologist, clinician, and educator, and the first woman appointed as a professor at the Yale School of Medicine.
Dr. Horstmann made significant contributions to the fields of public health and virology, her most notable being the demonstration that poliovirus reached the central nervous system via the bloodstream, upsetting conventional wisdom and paving the way for polio vaccines. While Dr. Horstmann’s work was deserving of a Nobel Prize, it is not surprising to learn that two men won it instead. Her long term belief that polio is carried through the blood of its victims was dismissed for many years…until one of her male colleagues started to research blood as a potential carrier. After polio was conquered, Dr. Horstmann worked on the rubella vaccine which is still used today. As the book demonstrates, she sacrificed almost everything else to pursue her work. Plan to join us for a discussion of Cullen’s fascinating account of this remarkable woman’s life and that of many other strong and dedicated women who worked to defeat polio.
Members are encouraged to bring snacks and beverages to share (wine is welcome!). Please enter through the kitchen door as the front door will be locked. Hope to see you there.
