Then on Thursday, November 16, Book Buzz members will gather for a conversation about The Daughters of Yalta by Catherine Grace Katz. Much has been written about the historic Yalta Conference in February 1945 when Churchill, Stalin and Roosevelt met to decide the future of the postwar world. However, little is known about the role played behind the scenes by three young women . This book tells the story through the eyes of Sarah Churchill, Anna Roosevelt and Kathleen Harriman, the daughter of W. Averell Harriman, the U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union. Skillfully written and meticulously researched, it is an extraordinary book that reveals the human side underlying the politics. The Daughters of Yalta is a remarkable story of fathers and daughters whose relationships were tested and strengthened by the history they witnessed and the future they crafted together. The evening’s discussion will be led by Nancy Nimz. The meeting will be held off-site at Creative Co-working, 922 Davis Street in Evanston.
